The two following pieces of poetry, 'tis hoped, will make
some amends for the want of news. They are taken from the
miscellanies of the late reverend and ingenious Mr. Henry
Grove, not long since publish'd in London. If they prove
agreeable to our readers, as we doubt not but they will to
all serious ones, we shall continue to insert extracts, upon
various subjects, from the best authors, till we can be
provided with what may be more proper for a news-paper.
TO A YOUNG FRIEND.
Should smiling joys on all thy steps attend,
And health, to monarchs coy, be Strephon's friend;
Gay should thy humour be, serene thy brow,
And, easy as thy thoughts, thy minutes flow;

ON THE DEATH OF A YOUTH.
With joy, blest youth, we saw thee reach the goal,
Fair was thy frame, and delicate thy soul,
Where, join'd at once, the softest manners met.
Truth, judgment, sweetness, innocence, and wit;
